Mrs Fashola’s aide kills two robbery suspects

A security orderly attached to the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, at the weekend shot dead two robbery suspects, who attacked him at gun point, dispossessing him of his money and other valuables. The police orderly, Sergeant Oladimeji Adewunmi, was attacked by a three-man robbery gang in his Toyota Camry car at about 11pm on Saturday night on his way home at Alapere.

Sources told National Mirror that the robbery suspects, who wielded locally made pistols, accosted the policeman on their motorcycle. Two of the robbers accosted him, the other waited on the motorcycle. “The suspected robbers asked him to part with his money. The policeman pulled his wallet and gave them the money. As one of the robbers wanted to pocket the money, the policeman pulled his pistol and shot him. The second suspect, who had taken the driver’s seat, in turn pulled his own pistol and released a shot at the policeman, but he missed the target. The policeman, however, shot him as he rushed to board the waiting motorcycle.
Though wounded, the suspect managed to escape with bullet wounds,” a source said. Passersby commended the policeman for his gallantry. The policeman, however, went to Alapere Police Station to report the incident. A police officer confirmed the incident. He said that the police, upon the receipt of a telephone call, recovered a corpse with bullet wounds at Ajelogo area of Ketu. The sergeant, it was learnt, had been invited to identify the body. Neither the Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Alkali, nor his spokesman, Jinadu Samuel, could be reached for comment.
