First Lady's HIV Campaign: "It Will Be A Thing Of The Past In 2015" She Says

The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan on Thursday in a campaign pleaded that all hands should be on deck to eradicate HIV and AIDS by 2015. The First Lady made this appeal at the commencement of the campaign for the elimination and prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, to commemorate the  World AIDS Day.

The Theme for day is 'Getting To Zero'. She said;
 "Since the first World AIDS Day in 1998, the day has assumed new significance; it has become a day when stakeholders renew their commitment to focus on specific issues that will make the biggest difference for the next years."The objective is zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths by 2015. I urge that to make this a reality, all pregnant women should access ante-natal care in health facilities.
"Even if they have traditional birth attendants, they should make sure they visit the health facility at least once during pregnancy and deliver their babies in a health facility and discussions on HIV should be encouraged in our communities." The president's wife noted that most HIV deaths were not caused by a lack of access to medication but by discrimination and urged that people showed support to people living with it.
"Remember that any of us could be infected with HIV; hence we should give them support in order to prolong their lives."Discrimination against carriers kills. No matter how you take anti-retroviral drugs, without love and support, you can still die."Please husbands, allow your wives to visit the clinic for ante-natal care, HIV testing and counselling and early education and awareness are key to combating the virus."
"Please reveal their HIV status to their wives on time. Some men know their status and take drugs secretly and leave the wives in the dark until the woman's case worsens".
Seriously? Could it be possible that some men know their status and even treat themselves, yet they leave their wife in the dark till it's too late for her to be treated? Wow things happen.
