The Abia violation Story Spreads To International Newspapers And News Websites

The rape video which has been making waves around Nigerian blogs has now gone viral, as international websites and newspaper like HuffingtonPost Dailymail WashingtonPost and YahooNews are reporting the story. The video is a shorter version of a video which shows an ABSU (Abia State University) student being raped for hours, by 5 young men who claims she insulted them.

This is very bad for a country like Nigeria which is suffering from bad international reputation, reading comments on these above mentioned websites just shows how bad this story destroys our reputation. Despite the publicity of this story, the pressure being mounted by internet users and the video being circulated, nothing is being done about the rape.

Abia State Governor via Nnaji Obed Asiegbu, (SA to the Abia State Governor on E-Governance)
The Abia state Governor has carried out an investigation on this matter and the truth is that, the alleged video never emanated from the university. The victim and the perpetrators are not students of Abia State University. Those associating ABSU with such barbaric visor should please desist from such. The university is safe for academic activities as known for.
Minister of Youth Development via Julius Ogunro (SA Media to HMYD)
The Honourable Minister ... calls on the University authorities and relevant security agencies to step up action to ensure that the heartless and wicked perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted. He has also promised to help rehabilitate the young victim if she would make herself available to the Ministry. The Honourable Minister calls on Nigerian youths to remain focused and positive-minded, disclosing that his Ministry will soon begin to implement programmes that will address their concerns.
Commissioner of police Abia State, Bala Hassan
“We don’t investigate rape cases based on what people put on twitter. When a crime is reported, the DPO must send detectives to investigate the scene of the crime. Up till now have you seen the victim? Have you seen the scene of crime? Have you seen the suspects? It is a very dangerous rumour that must be dismissed by all good meaning Abians and Nigerians” - Bala Hassan, Commissioner of police Abia State

Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji
"... report from the leadership of the University said that there was no such inglorious act and ugly incident in the institution. His Excellency, Chief T. A. Orji, the Executive Governor of Abia State has investigated and still investigating the allegation. However, we appeal that the victim should help by giving a lead to enable government bring perpetrators to book. Her Excellency has been at the forefront of championing the course of womanhood and promoting the Girl Child Education, Kicking against Child trafficking and Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy and Child Labour, and would therefore stop at nothing to bring the perpetrators to face the long arm of the law if allegation if found to be true even if happened outside the institution. The report as a matter of necessity, justice and fair play should be substantiated with facts in the interest of our society".
