Bolt won the 100 metres gold medal last night with a running time of 9.63 seconds, He was followed by his fellow Jamaican team mate, Yohan Blake who won silver with a running time of 9.75 seconds.
Bolt sets a new Olympic record for that particular distance and also defending his gold medal from the Beijing Summer Olympics 4years ago. After the race, Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago who finished seventh place said "There's no doubt he's the greatest sprinter of all time".
Just hours before Jamaica was to celebrate their 50th anniversary of Independence from the United Kingdom , USA Today referred to Bolt as a Jamaican "national hero".
With his 2012 win, Bolt became the first man to defend an Olympic sprint title since Carl Lewis in 1988.
