A presidential statement said on GhanaTV said his death occurred on Tuesday after he took ill on Monday night. He had been receiving treatment for throat cancer and had returned to Ghana after visting the US for medical checks.
Born on July 21, 1944 Dr John Evans Fifii Atta Mills was the third president of Ghana. He was inaugurated in January 2009 having won an election to replace President John Kufuor. He was Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Jerry Rawlings and had stood unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.
He leaves behind a widow Ernestina Naadu Mills.
One of the best presidents in Africa just passed away and he was doing well for his country Ghana so sad..
