D'banj got his highest number of votes from fans across sub-Saharan Africa. He has previously won Best African Act at the 2007 MTV Europe Music Awards, Artist of the Year at both the 2008 and 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards.
While the 19th annual MTV Europe awards show will be broadcast live from Frankfurt on Sunday 11 November, 2012 and supermodel Heidi Klum will be host for the event.
