How 11yr old, Morenike Toye Died Of Neglect In A Boarding School

11yr old Morenike Toye died from cerebral malaria and acute renal failure in November 2008, 2months after she joined Faith Academy. According to her parents, she was given tablets which she lost, when she was given another set she threw up, and because the school carers weren't monitoring her, they didn't know this. They didn't inform her parents until she had gone subconscious, and didn't even do a blood test. When they tried to help her regain conciousness, no one knew which drugs she had already taken.

She was eventually transferred to a general hospital but even then, there were complications due to lack of facilities. The Toye's later found out that Cerebral malaria was a common occurrence in the school. The school offered scholarship to their other son, but the family rejected this and are still kin to fight in court.

Her parents are presently running a website, 'Movement Against Negligence in Boarding Schools' MANIBS and are planning to build a malaria centre for children. They are also hoping to make a movie titled “Church is not Heaven”, to share her story.
