Award winning Nigerian director Jeta Amata, and his lovely wife Mbong Amata have been in the United States promoting Jeta's new movie Black Gold. The movie tells the story of a Niger Delta community's struggle against their own government and a multinational oil corporation, which has plundered their land and destroyed the environment. The movie was recently screened at the American Black International Film Festival in Miami, where it picked up the Special Jury Prize.

BLACK MEN IN THE UNITED STATES ARE HEALTHIER IN PRISON

A NEW STUDY has found that black prisoners are less likely to die from ‘health and lifestyle’ related illnesses, than those on the outside.

According to findings published in Annals of Epidemiology, black inmates are between 30 and 40 percent less likely to die from diabetes, drug-related causes, suicide, and murder, than black men not in prison.

The study, which involved 100,000 black and white men aged between 20 and 79, looked at inmates who were held in North Carolina prisons at some point between 1995 and 2005.

Researchers compared prison and state health records to determine inmates’ cause of death during their prison stay, against figures with expected deaths in men of the same age and race in the general population.

The report found that white men on the whole were 12 percent more likely to die in prison than outside, a finding they attributed to higher rates of infection, including HIV and hepatitis.

One of the study’s researchers, Dr. David Rosen, told Reuters: "For some populations, being in prison likely provides benefits in regards to access to healthcare and life expectancy."

"It's important to remember that there are many possible negative consequences of imprisonment. For example, broken relationships, loss of employment opportunities, and greater entrenchment in criminal activity, that are not reflected in our study findings.

“But nevertheless have an important influence on prisoners' lives and their overall health," he added.

SAMMIE OKPOSO SIGNED TO INTERNATIONAL RECOED LABEL

Tate music group (TMG) Records, based in Oklahoma, USA, has just signed  popular Nigerian gospel music star, Sammie Okposo, thus, making him their first ever black artiste.  
The official press conference is scheduled to hold in the United States on August 15, 2011 with full details of the deal revealed to the press, but according to his publicist, Media & Marketing Experts (MME), TMG Records' first project is to release Okposo’s new album, "The Statement" to the international market. The album will be re-produced by 10 times Grammy Awards winner, Kevin Bond with support from Sammie Okposo and, there is a possible collaboration with international gospel acts like Mary Mary, Israel Houghton, Kirk Franklin and Deitrick Haddon.

Speaking on this, Sammie Okposo said 

“The deal to release my album internationally and find it in every music store across the world is a welcome development but it doesn’t mean my previous albums were not sold outside Nigeria. Just that it was on a small scale. We believe the new deal will open more doors and boost our image internationally. It is long overdue”

Naeto C's album release party hokds in New York City

Naeto C's album release party would hold in New York City on 2nd of September,  and will feature Storm Records all-star casts; Sasha, YQ and Deejay Neptune.

TIWA SAVAGE ON THE COVER OF EXQUISITE MAGAZINE

 The new issue of Exquisite Magazine has Tiwa Savage as "The Denim Issue" cover girl. In this issue, Tiwa discusses how she got into the music industry and the different local and international acts she has worked with. According to Tewa Onasanya, the editor of Exquisite Magazine, “We chose Tiwa for the Denim issue because we think Tiwa is fresh, edgy, fun and versatile. We wanted to capture her sexiness; everybody loves Tiwa for being a confident woman with a great voice. Singer Lami adopts an entire orphanage

Singer/ 2010 UN ambassador for peace, Lami recently adopted an orphanage, the "Nigerian Red Cross Society Motherless Babies' Home", located in Makoko which has been in existence since the mid 80's. Speaking on this, she said:-

"I have been seeking to support a specific cause in the society and have considered a number of institutions. When I visited the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Motherless Babies' Home and shared experiences with these kids, my heart settled on them," 

 The adoption is done through her NGO BeTheChange, and the singer would also be hosting a monthly show with proceeds to be channelled to the expenses of the orphanage.

TUFACE ERECTS A N200m EVENT CENTER/ NIGHTCLUB IN FESTAC

Tuface is currently erecting a three storey building event center sitting on a six plot of land space, for young people to hang out. It would house a nightclub called Hyper Lounge named after his record label, a restaurant and bar, VIP lounge, porsche guest house and more. With marquee and other facilities imported from America and China, it is aimed to be the biggest of its kind in the area.

HEAVY LAGOS RAINFALL DELAYS NOLLYWOOD PRODUCER, ONYEABOR’S BAIL

Ifeanyi Onyeabor was remanded in the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), when found guilty on a charge of stealing and fraudulent conversion on the 28th of June. The Igo Motion Pictures International boss allegedly defrauded Steve-James Nigeria Limited of N8.9 Million, made available to him for the production of two movies; ‘Tribes’ and ‘Young Amazon’. Onyeabor according to the complainant and EFCC prosecutor, didn’t just collect up to the sum of N6 Million and convert to personal use, but also fraudulently converted some of the company’s properties to funds amounting up to N1.86 Million  and therefore remanded in prison. A bail application court hearing was scheduled for July 11th, but was unable to hold due to the Lagos flood.

Ifeanyi Onyeabor is best known for movies like ‘Baby Guard’ starring the late Ashley Nwosu in 2005, ‘Love Nwatiti’ starring  Aki& Pawpaw in 2003 and ‘Silent Book’ starring Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Alex Usifo and Emeka Enyiocha in 2003.

LOVER PROPOSES TO NIKKI LAOYE THROUGH A BLOG POST

Gospel singer Nikki Laoye shared with her Facebook friends and fans that her lover Alexander had opened a blog www.sammieal.blogspot.com just to propose to her, she wrote on her wall:-

‘And the dude done did it!! haha!! June 26th is a day i will never forget…was the headlining artiste for One Mic Naija and became the headline topic in the best proposal ever…share my joy. Lord i thank u…u ave finally DID IT…yaaaay‘

The story is that the lovebirds were having lunch on the Chicken Republic eatery in Ikoyi when Alex sent Nikki a ‘supposed’ feature story about her career that he’d stumbled on. Upon checking and reading it on her Blackberry phone, the only thing she saw was a write-up from Alex proposing to the her. A surprised Nikki burst into tears (of joy apparenetly) before calming down to say the big ‘Yes’. The petite singer who headlined the recent  One Mic Naija gig in Lagos didn’t waste time in giving out a response to her fiance’s post too.
