The competition is owned by Ford Models Inc. and has expanded throughout the globe with licensed competitions taking place in over 40 countries of the world. This year (2011) Nigeria joins her counterparts to search for the next Ford Supermodel of the World.
The Nigeria 1st place winner will join other first place winners across the globe in New York by August to compete for the grand prize of $250,000 (US) modeling contract with Ford Models. The runners-up also receive modeling contracts with Ford Models for $150,000 (US) – 2nd place and $100,000 (US) – 3rd place.

Ghana meets Naija musical concert 'battle for music supremacy'

Ghana meets Naija is a new musical on stage battle for music supremacy between Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes which comes up on the 1st of July at the Dome, Accra conference center. Nigerians are represented by Tuface, J martins, 9ice and Wande coal while r2bees, 4*4, Ruff n smooth, VIP, Sarkordie represents Ghanaians.

This concert is going to be an annual event to celebrate both countries's music industry, and is organized by Bola ray of Empire Entertainment.

Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya involved in a serious auto crash

It has just been reported by NIGERIANFILMS that Yoruba movie star Moji Olaiya was involved in a fatal accident

" ... Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya was involved in a serious auto crash some days back; on her way to a movie location, 32 kilometres to Ibadan, oyo State.The actress who debuted her own movie November last year, escaped unhurt but one of the other occupants of the vehicle sustained a fractured arm. The vehicle itself was totally wrecked.Reports says that she was driving in her personal car, an SUV, when she lost two tyres and the car somersaulted."

Children's day celebration in lagos - The Fashola style

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Raji Fashola, SAN has plans to host over 500 children in the Rafiaji area of Lagos for the Children's day celebration,. The event is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Sarturday 28th of May 2011 at the Community Center, Onikan and aims mainly to reach the under privileged. This comes after his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola joined in at the 2011 Indomie Children's Day Fiesta earlier today.

London retail shop adopts Hausa language to woo customers

A London leading retail shop, Debenhams, has adopted Hausa, a language spoken by nearly 45 million people in West Africa including Nigeria, to woo customers as race for summer sales starts.
The retailer had placed a bold sign reading: “Na gode don sayayyarka a Debenhams’’ in Hausa meaning, “Thank you for shopping at Debenhams’’ at the entrance of its Oxford street Branch in London.
Speaking to a group newsmen on the issue on Wednesday Mr Marcus Appleton, a Senior Store Manager said the decision was based on an assessment of its shoppers who come from outside Briatain.

He said it was discovered that 71 per cent of foreigners who visited the shop in 2010 are Nigerians followed by Chinese and the Arabs.
Appleton noted further that while some of it Nigerian customers were keen on designer suits, Chinese shoppers favoured cosmetics and perfumes.
According to the 2001 census, more than 300 languages are being spoken in London.(NAN).

BBC2's Welcome to Lagos wins Bafta Award

 The very controversial three part documentary (Welcome to Lagos) which aired on BBC2 last year, showcasing life in a Lagos slum, was awarded the BAFTA yesterday for  Best Factual Series at the 2011 British Academy Television Award.
